Equine & Canine Black Background Portraiture
I have had the pleasure of photographing black background portraits for clients who have horses AND dogs. I started learning how to photographing them individually, and then when clients began asking for photos of their animals together, I found it was much easier for me to provide higher quality images if I continued photographing the animals individually, and created group compositions of the animals together in adobe photoshop.
This ensures that…
The clients receive individual images of each horse and dog.
Everyone stays safe (not all horses love each other, and not all horses know or like dogs, some barns don’t have a wide enough doorway to photograph more than one animal at a time., and some barns don’t allow dogs off leash while on property).
Because of the safety, each animal has their own space to show us their individual beauty and personality.
Knowing what poses work well with each other, I can create a wider range of compositions for the clients, than if we had asked the horses and dogs to magically pose themselves next to each other.
Yes, it takes a lot more work in photoshop, and it has taken me years to perfect my photoshop skills to the point where if you didn’t know the animals were photographed individually, you wouldn’t be able to tell from the editing work. I care about the details, from body language in the photos, to redrawing whiskers, perfecting shadow casts, and even the way the clients want to display the images in their homes, barns and offices. Because with the amount of work that goes into these black background portraits, I want clients to enjoy them as the center piece art work they can be proud of.
These photoshoots can be completed at any time of the day, only requiring a shaded doorway we can photograph your horses and dogs in. I am based out of Muskegon Michigan during the summers and Wellington Florida during the winters. If these are the fine art portraits you have been dreaming of, let’s set a date for me to visit your barn to create these masterpieces!
