Dax is a 13 year old Parson Russell Terrier, a veteran competitor in many sports, an explorer of USA national parks, and Sabine’s whole heart (and then some).

An hour before our photoshoot, a storm font moved in and brought a constant drizzle of rain. Sabine, Dax’s owner, was concerned that Dax wouldn’t cooperate and if he did, it would be limited to a few minutes. We decided to give a try, considering she was heading home to California the next day, and with Dax’s rough coat, a bit of rain wouldn’t alter his coat condition (I would just have to edit out the rain drops!).

We made it fun, worked within Dax’s needs and comfort zone, and successfully photographed him in 15+ locations throughout the Kalamazoo College Campus. His best facial expressions came the second before he was rewarded and released, or when there were squirrels half his size hanging off trees chattering at him. We used this to our advantage and ended the photoshoot with a stunning collection of portraits that captured his stoic, loyal, and adorable personality.
