I have fallen in love with urban dog photography, despite my heart being happiest in the woods or along the quietest areas of the Lake Michigan. Finding locations in cities I am unfamiliar with, that are potentially gold mines for mid day dog photoshoots is a new, but rewarding challenge, especially when the images can come together as nicely as this collection did!

On my way through Lansing Michigan, I met Morgan and her whippet, Tinkerbell, at the Michigan State Capitol building. This building offered several options to capture a simple but elegant background, at any time of the day, and enough space to work along side of other photographers utilizing the same architecture.

During this short photoshoot, we focused on capturing classic portraits, and then spent time playing with ribbons, expanding my experience and knowledge of using giant ribbons with smaller dogs. Using ribbons can either allow the photo to capture a significant milestone memory, or completely clutter and distract the view. Being able to play with ribbons and practice posing dogs with them, allowed me to build up my skillset for future clients.
