I arrived at Natalie’s barn to photograph her beloved mare, Shasta, and she I asked her to tell me about her horse, tears of endless love came to Natalie’s eyes. I see a lot of people who love their horses, but the depth of Natalie’s love for Shasta has intertwined with her soul, and it’s hard to look at one and not see the other.
I knew this kind of love was special, one I could relate to with the pony I had has a child. I was only there to photograph Shasta’s Equine Portraits, but seeing their love, I asked if Natalie would be up for being photographed with Shasta are her quiet barn and in the pastures beneath the mossy oaks. She wasn’t prepared to be in photos, but I felt as though it was important to give her a few images, even if it was only a keepsake for herself.
We wiped the tears, laughed about the parkouring barn cats and the number of hats stacked on Natalie’s mom’s head, and started photographing Shasta and Natalie together. I could have sat there all day and photographed their bond, evident in the smallest of details and afar in wide angle views. These were a handful of favorites from our spontaneous photoshoot of them together. 💕
