I have admired Sara Shier Photography’s work and looked up to Sara as a mentor for many years. Sara has built an incredible empire with her photography business, specializing in private show photography, but excelling at any portrait work she picks up along the route across the continent as she travels from show to show.

I was surprised, honored and humbled when she reached out to me to book a photoshoot at her new farm, while I was traveling through South Carolina. We originally spoke of photographing her dog, Loki, but with some health concerns the week prior, we adjusted our goals and decided to photograph Sara and her horses, capturing both memories and branding photos for her business. Loki decided he was still going to join our adventure, and I couldn’t help but capture his zest for life every time he photobombed the poses. 😆

It was early in the morning, while the sun filtered through the moisture in the air, making the grass sparkle from the settled dew. We chugged caffeine, let the horses run out their silliness, and then settled into a relaxed routine of posing candids and more formal portraits of Sara and her horses. It can be intimidating to photograph for another photographer, but with common knowledge of photoshoots, it can open up a world of possibilities in what we can create together for fine art.

I am so very thankful for Sara trusting my business, inviting me to photograph for her, and for the boost in confidence, both in photography AND as a business owner. Her kindness in a lonely, and often times too hostile of an industry, has been a gift, one I cannot wait to pass along to the next up and coming photographers.
