Mr. Bear and Lazy Mornings

My days spent in the office, editing and processing orders, typically begin in the kitchen with the company of Winston, Mr. Bear, and a hot cup of coffee.
After bonding over their matching stubby tails when Winston joined our family, Winston and Mr. Bear have become best friends! Mr. Bear is there to be prison buddies with him at night in his kennel, to stand guard while Winston continually fell asleep after every play time as a pup, to be a willing target as Winston learned to stalk and pounce on things, as well as a loyal friend as Winston (still) drags him through the grass, dirt, puddles, and all over the house. Mr. Bear even forgave Winston after his constant kisses meant loosing his own nose, and for causing Mr. Bear to go through and emergency open heart surgery and a stuffing transfusion!! (He has recovered immaculately!)
Needless to say, Winston loves Mr. Bear. They are two peas in a pod.

Winston will usually bring Mr. Bear (dragged by his stubby tail, head bouncing off the floor and walls) to the kitchen for breakfast and a good morning shake and toss around. Winston then gets sleepy and in need of his first morning nap, he will want to cuddle with me. Since he’s gotten bigger, he no longer fits curled up in my lap while I work on the computer, so we have resorted to butting up a kitchen chair to mine. This way he has the option to lay on me, or curl up on his own chair. This keeps the coffee from spilling, and from him being able to climb up on the table! As we all know, nothing good comes from a puppy on a table!

It’s our morning routine, and it has quickly become my favorite time of day. These are the memories I will cherish and love forever.

Fishin' for Dogfish, 15 weeks old

"What are you doing?!"

"Fishin'! We're fishing for dogfish!"

Laughing, "Are you catching any?"

"Oh yeah, lots! More then my dad ever catches on his fishing trips!"

A fishing poll, a safety pin, and a toy is all you need!! Winston loves it! For all the times he plays with that rope toy, growling at it, pouncing on it, and shaking it around, the fishing poll brings it to life and if Winston can run fast enough, he can even catch it! And Andy doesn't even have to get out of his comfy clothes either!

Growing up, 14 Weeks Old

FOURTEEN WEEKS OLD...

The last couple of weeks I have been so busy! Between traveling, working part time elsewhere, and unfortunately attending multiple family funerals, I have barely had time to photograph anything personal for myself. With so many photo shoots on the dock to edit, and so many hours in the office, I started to go a bit stir crazy these last few days. (There is only so much of Hulu garbage tv one can take!!) So Winston and I grabbed the camera and headed out. Despite what life throws at me, I have to remember to keep photographing for myself. Our everyday memories are the ones I want to always remember, because it's the little things in life that make life so beautiful.

Saturday Andy went to a family BBQ that didn't allow pets so Winston and I hung out at home for the afternoon, editing photos from the Maine Trip and exploring a new trail down the road. No adventure would be complete without a visit to the faucet! And to tell it who's boss!

It's sad to see the fuzzy puppy gone from our little Winston, but watching and photographing him growing up has been a pleasure. He has been such an easy puppy to have in our lives. Learning new things super quickly, keeping good manners, and not causing any trouble at all.

He truly has been a dream puppy. <3

It rained more last night then it has in the past two months. Buckets and buckets of rain for 12 hours straight. Winston experienced rolling thunder all night long, as well as his first power outage after we witnessed the transformer across the road being struck by lightning. He was a bit confused why we had turned out all the lights before bed time, but was content to curl up with Mr. Teddy Bear and sleep the night away. Not a peep was made! I guess Andy should stop rolling his eyes and calling me crazy for banging the pots and pans around to desensitize Winston to loud noises! He was a good puppy last night.

This morning we woke to most of our trails flooded with at least 4 inches of water and several trees down across the paths. It was fun to adventure through the trails to see which ones were passable for a short pup, and just how deep Winston was willing to swim! He quickly learned that the water trails had frogs everywhere and as I watched him attempt to herd two frogs in the same direction, I imagined it would be like watching us herd cats!

We stopped a few times along the way to pull the burrs out of Winston's fur, and in the dreamy light, we took some portraits. Lucky for me, Winston doesn't jump off from things, which means I can place him anywhere!

He was a happy, soggy puppy who slept for three hours once we got home! This allowed me to get more editing done and two more sessions from Maine almost complete! The balance between entertaining the puppy and getting office work done is getting easier and easier with every passing day!

8 weeks to 14 weeks. 6.5 lbs to 13.4 lbs.

Winston loves his wagon rides. He is quickly out growing this little red wagon. I think it's time we look for a Radio Flyer for him. <3

Puppyhood, 8-10 Weeks Old

Let's catch you up to speed!!

EIGHT WEEKS OLD...

Winston has slept with Mr. Teddy Bear every night since he came home. He has since shredded Mr. Teddy Bear's nose, but he still loves to cuddle and tackle the poor bear every chance he can!

Back yard play and what a flirt he can be! Oh my heart!! <3

NINE WEEKS OLD...

Winston's first trip to the beach! Andy taught him the doggie paddle and Winston learned to love the sand dunes and the higher perspective!

Winston discovered the water faucet on the side of the house. Upon this find, we learned how to blow bubbles!

And also how to be a complete cheese ball!

Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve adventures! He wasn't a big fan of being splashed in the face by the lake waves, so I thought these flooded boardwalks would be perfect to teach him about water! Little did I know he would test the waters, then run and jump off the boardwalks, disappearing into the deep swamp water!!! Thank GOD he had a leash on! I pulled that leash toward the sky as fast as I could, praying a puppy would still be attached to the other end! Sure enough, out of the dark stinky waters comes a Sir Swamp Monster Winston! My fear would be that he would have water in his lungs or the very least, be traumatized of water from here on out - the last thing I wanted!! I held my breath as I watched Winston shake out his ears, lick the Lilly Pads from his face, and trot over to the other side of the dock and jump back INTO the deep water!!
Again, I yanked that leash to the sky and UP came Sir Swamp Monster Winston! I couldn't believe he did that!! My heart couldn't take another leap into the swamp so I anchored him down and we had a swimming safety lesson. He wasn't phased in the least and only came home smelling like a swamp. Lucky for us, he no longer jumps off of things now! At least he learned one lesson! *shakes head* Silly Man.

Stinky Swamp Monsters end up in the tub... He was still so little, he couldn't see over the edge of the tub!

I added a few towels in the bottom of the tub to give him some height for a bath time photograph.

Then back to a fuzzy cutie pie we go. <3

Every morning we have breakfast and coffee, then enjoy some cuddles and start the day with some office work. When sunny, we sit out back, soaking in the summer sun and enjoying the dozens of dragon flies that sun themselves on our patio lights.

TEN WEEKS OLD...

Andy and I took Winston to a friend's house to pick wild blue berries! He snuffled them all up off the grass as we picked from the bushes, someone always on bear watch. Despite being so close to town, they had spotted four different bears traveling throughout their property gorging themselves on all of the berries. The bears weren't the only ones stopping in for snacks, the birds were clearing bushes like it was their job! It was peaceful to know, that as humans, we were just another being in the woods enjoying the fleeting weeks the berries were ripe.

"Dadddd, drop another one! I promise I won't catch it and will keep asking for more!!"

A long afternoon at the beach with the big dogs and an outside hose bath that was a bit too cold. Winston got my sweatshirt, a warm rice bag, and Charlie's dog bed. He was asleep instantly, wrapped in his warm cocoon.

Another adventure to the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve, saying hello to everyone that walks by and begging to play with the kids chasing frogs and snakes!

Meet Winston

Meet Winston, Sir Winston Everette Churchill Warren Pemberton Klein IV!  Born shortly after Andy and I said our "I Do's!" We have been dreaming about adding a dog into our family for years but until recently, our schedules have not allowed us the time or availability to be home to justify getting a dog.

Then life changed, and we got a dog! <3

After popular demand of constant updates through photographs of Winston's adventures as he grows, I have decided to start a journal here on the site for family, friends, and fans to follow!!  So here it is! Enjoy!! :)
