I have had the pleasure of photographing Katie and her Morgan dressage horses, last Summer AND again this Winter! During the Summer photoshoot, we wanted to highlight her achievements with Wing as Reserve World Champion, and capture her bond with her other Morgan horse, and her two Standard Poodles.
Right after that photoshoot, she found her newest addition, a Morgan colt named Winter Moon Excalibur, aka Blade. With the theme of his name being Winter, she wanted to photograph him in the fresh snow, at Five Star Performance Horses in St. Charles, Michigan. We had a very small window with Michigan’s temperamental weather patterns to capture this opportune moment in time, but it was worth the wait, as the photographs from their Horse & Rider photoshoot came out beautifully!
Photographing this playful and curious colt, we captured him playing in the snow at liberty, portraits against the winter wonderland background, details shots of his baby features, and his growing relationship with Katie, and her other horse Wing. Having a short attention span and budding education, we worked within Blade’s comfort zone, balancing between letting him play or do his own thing, and asking him to stand for portraits. This allowed him to enjoy the photoshoot and to show us his unique personality during this fleeting stage of his life.
