Typically… I arrive at a Horse & Rider photoshoot with set goals, either requested images/poses from the client upon booking, or personal goals that push me to be more creative. I also already have an idea of the layout of the property, location and lighting options (hello google earth!), and I know from the contract what discipline, breed, age and any concerns with the horse the client may have.
This gives me time to organize the photoshoot’s timeline and workflow before the day of the shoot.
Prior to arriving at for Marin’s photoshoot at Deer Meadow in Wellington, Florida, I had been incredibly busy juggling travel across the country, prior clients needs earlier in the day, and educational needs for my online and in person students. My mind was preoccupied, and I didn’t have time to mentally organize for this photoshoot.
I arrived at this photoshoot, knowing that it was going to test my ability to see and create photos on the fly, while maximizing the sunset lighting and locations, and working with a new client and horse. Staying flexible, but quick to reorganize with the ability to still deliver quality products, is a skill that has been very useful when working with animals.
I was very lucky in that Jug, Marin’s horse (yes, his name is Jug, like a milk jug ), was a saint, making every idea that popped into my head possible on the first try! Marin and Jug were so easy to work with, that it left me wondering what I had missed… And every since, it has left me dreaming of what other photos we could create together.
These were a handful of favorites from their photoshoot.
